Douglas girls tennis show depth in win
Fifteen Douglas High girls tennis players saw court time Tuesday in a 13-5 victory against North Valleys in Reno.
Five Tigers played singles and five pairs combined to play in doubles as Douglas improved its Northern 4A conference record to 2-0. Coach Dan Hannah was pleased with the play of the Tigers overall.
“A very good performance by the whole team,” Hannah noted. “The veterans were nearly flawless and the newcomers showed their mettle.”
Senior Maggie Rich swept her three singles sets, winning each 6-0. Sisters Kylie and Kari Coziahr both won two sets, dropping one game each, while Amanda Shaffer won her set 6-0. Lauren Wilsey, a junior newcomer to the Douglas program, lost her set 7-6 in a tiebreaker.
The doubles team of Shelby Casaus and Kelsey Carlson won both of their sets. Sophomore Nikki Alexander and freshman Maureen Brennan won two of three sets, their one loss coming against the No. 1 North Valleys team. Natalie Smith and Angelina Stein split two matches.
