Dominance in the first and third quarters Friday night put the Douglas High girls basketball team on track to a 56-16 Northern Division I crossover victory over the Hug Hawks in Reno.

Douglas (2-4 league, 5-9 overall) outscored Hug 13-2 in the first quarter then pitched a 19-0 shutout in the third quarter and the Tigers went on to ring up their third straight win.

“The kids played well,” Douglas coach Werner Christen said. “They made the extra pass … the defense was very good.”

By winning, the Tigers moved into a third-place tie with Carson in the Sierra League standings and into the thick of the playoff picture.

Maddy Lowe scored 10 points to lead the offense for the Tigers, who visit Galena Friday night for another Sierra League contest.

Hug dropped to 0-6 in the High Desert League standings and 0-10 overall.
