Douglas girls break into win column

Senior forward Maddy Lowe scored 16 points to help the Douglas High girls basketball team to a 43-39 vicotyr against Lowry Saturday afternoon at the High Sierra Winter Challenge in Sparks.

Douglas (1-3 overall, 0-1 league) moved on top thanks to a 19-9 run through the second quarter at Spanish Springs High School.

The Tigers led 26-18 at halftime and 33-28 at the end of three quarters.

Janae Blue Horse also scored nine points for the Tigers, while Hailey Hughes and Hannah Carr added five each. All three players are freshmen.

Lowry (1-2) is the defending Northern I-A Region Tournament champion.

The Tigers opened the tournament with a pair of losses, 56-27 on Thursday against Faith Lutheran (Las Vegas) and 54-38 against Bella Vista (Fair Oaks, Calif.) on Friday. Bella Vista was led by 6-foot-2 senior Rachael DiRegolo, who had 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots.

Douglas is scheduled to host Fallon (4-0) in a non-conference contest at noon on Saturday.
