Douglas girls basketball run past Wooster
Don’t look now, but the Douglas High girls basketball team is on a roll.
After starting their Sierra League season with four straight losses in crossover games, the young Tigers have come back to win three straight, including a 52-29 triumph Tuesday night at home against Wooster.
The win, coupled with Carson’s 54-36 loss against Damonte Ranch, pushed Douglas (3-4 league, 6-9 overall) into sole possession of third-place in the league standings. The Tigers, who have four freshmen in their starting lineup, have won four straight dating back to a 56-46 verdict on Dec. 30 against Lincoln (San Diego) at the So Cal Holiday Classic.
Hannah Carr, Maddy Lowe, Janae Blue Horse and Hailey Hughes combined to score 44 points to help the Tigers roll past Wooster.
Carr scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half while Lowe and Blue Horse scored 11 each to lead the Tigers. Hughes also had 10 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots.
Douglas jumped out to a 14-9 first quarter lead and never looked back. Carr went inside for back-to-back baskets and Blue Horse converted two free throws as the Tigers extended their lead to 25-13 with 2:52 left before halftime.
Madison Rodgers came off the bench to provide a spark for Douglas with four assists and five rebounds.
Wooster (1-6 league, 2-9 overall) was led by Alannah Boston with 10 points and Leilani O’Daye with nine.
