Douglas falls at Damonte
Damonte Ranch clinched third-place in the Sierra League volleyball race Tuesday night with a 3-2 win against Douglas in Reno.
Douglas — 14-10 overall, 8-7 league entering its regular season finale against Carson on Thursday night — won the opening set before Damonte Ranch rallied to win the match by scores of 18-25, 25-20, 25-14, 23-25, 15-8.
It marked the fifth time the Tigers have played a five-set match during the league season. The Tigers are 0-5 in those matches, two of which were against Damonte Ranch.
Isabelle Peterson put down 12 kills and Taryn Allmett 10 kills to lead Douglas at the net. Sophomore setter Talyn Jackson handed out 30 assists.
Raychel Allen led the Tigers’ defensively with 19 digs, while Peterson added 14 and Jackson 10.
Johnnie Saletti contributed a team-high eight service points and Aubrey Caires added seven (three aces).
Morgan Waller had a match-high 20 kills and five blocks for Damonte Ranch (17-10 overall, 11-4 league).
Also for the Mustangs, Meagan Carlson added 13 kills and Jasmin Hubbard 12, while sophomore setter Mckinley Thiede had 47 assists.
Heather Wiberg was credited with 25 digs, Hubbard 21 and Lenae Burkhart 16 for the Mustangs.
Damonte Ranch defeated Douglas in two straight games, 25-22 and 25-18. Sierra Sullivan collected four kills, four aces and five digs for the Tigers and Robyne Foster had seven assists. Madison Rodgers had three blocks and Hannah Kyle two. Erika Leitenbauer contributed four digs, Meagan Leberth four and Peyton Craig four. Katie Davidson added two kills.
Douglas outlasted Damonte Ranch in two closely contested games, 25-19 and 26-24. The Tigers’ freshmen improved their season record to 12-4.
