Douglas boys run to fourth-place
A young Douglas High boys cross country team ran to fourth-place on Friday at the Sparks Invitational.
With the varsity runners taking a break to prepare for the Sierra League Championships on Thursday, the Sparks invite provided an opportunity for the JV runners compete at the varsity level. And the boys tied Churchill County for fourth-place, with the prevailing on the sixth runner tie-breaker.
Sophomore Nolan Greth led the Tigers with his 15th-place run of 18:39 over the 5-kilometer course at Rancho San Rafael Park, while senior Josh Cassity ran 18:57 to place 23rd.
“Nolan and Josh both ran great races when we really need them to step up for the team,” coach Jay Frey said. “These are both kids that have been working really hard all season.”

In the girls race, Kate Hill ran 23:33 to finish 32nd for Douglas. “Kate had a solid race,” Frey said of the junior. “She’s been fighting through a couple injuries, but stepped up and ran hard for a great time.”
