A balanced effort on Monday helped the Douglas High boys golf team to a fourth-place finish in its Sierra League tournament in Reno.

Shane Pyle shot 77 to tie for seventh on the individual leaderboard and three other Tigers shot personal best scores as the team carded a season-best 436 at Lakeridge Golf Club.

Douglas finished only nine strokes out of second-place to continue its significant improvement in the third week of the regular season. The Tigers opened with a 528 at Wolf Run on March 25, followed by a 455 last week at Eagle Valley West and then a sixth-place performance last week in its flight at the Pahrump Valley Invitational.

In addition to Pyle, sophomore Colin Brooks shot 81, Jaden Wass 88, Zander Gahn 93, freshman Jarod Endter 97 and sophomore Logan Miller shot 118 in his first tournament of the season. The scores were personal bests for Wass, Endter and Miller, according to coach Corey Thacker.

Bishop Manogue carded a 372 to remain undefeated for the season on a day when the Miners turned in five of the top six individual scores. Senior Jens Verhey earned medalist honors with his 71.

Galena finished second in the team standings with its 427, followed by Carson in third-place at 434. Damonte Ranch checked in at 465 for fifth-place and Wooster shot 539 to round out the field.

The Tigers have two weeks off for their Spring Break before returning to action April 30 at ArrowCreek Country Club in Reno.
