DHS girls soccer team wins 2-0 Mustangs
McKenna Kynett scored two goals Saturday afternoon to help lift the Douglas High girls soccer team to a 2-0 Sierra League victory against Damonte Ranch in Reno.
Kynett scored in the 24th minute, assisted by Abby Jens, to account for a 1-0 lead that stood at halftime. Kynett added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute as Douglas (12-3-3 overall) made amends for a 1-0 loss its absorbed at home against Damonte Ranch on Oct. 6.
The Tigers also moved into sole possession of second-place in the league standings, one point behind Carson. Douglas took a five-game win streak into its league championship showdown at home against Carson on Tuesday. The Tigers needed a win to clinch the title and a win or tie to clinch a top-two finish in the league for home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
Note: Kynett scored nine goals for the Tigers during their run of five straight wins. The senior forward now has 22 for the season and a school career total of 110.
