Cougars top Tigers in second half surge
Two second-half goals were the difference Saturday morning in the Spanish Springs High boys soccer team’s 2-0 victory against Douglas in Sparks.
Court Diesner and Austin Fullmer struck for goals after the intermission as Spanish Springs (1-2 league, 2-2 overall) broke up a scoreless duel in the Northern 4A cross-over contest against Douglas (0-3, 0-4).
“Our defense played extremely well,” Douglas coach Charles Zumpft said, adding credit to senior goal keeper Luke Heinrichs with 14 saves.
Lack of offense continues to hinder the Tigers, who have only scored one goal in four games to date this season.
“The team is coming along,” Zumpft said. “We are just struggling to find the back of the net.”
Douglas returns to action today with a 5 p.m. game against Reed in Sparks. The Tigers play host to Hug Saturday at 10:45 a.m.
