Contreras runs for 196 yards in Falcons’ loss

Despite a career-high 196 yards rushing from Cole Contreras, the Sierra Lutheran Falcons came up on the short end of a 50-9 score Saturday against undefeated Excel Christian during a Western 1A 8-man football game in Sparks.

Excel Christian (2-0 league, 4-0 overall) was led by quarterback Noah Denson with 144 rushing yards and Jeshua Fixel with 141 yards. They each rushed for two touchdowns.

Sierra Lutheran (1-1, 1-3), which has been plagued by injuries, got on the scoreboard in the first quarter when freshman John Miles kicked a 31-yard field goal and Contreras ran for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Sierra Lutheran’s Nathan Waite had four receptions for 78 yards, plus he led the defense with 10 tackles (9 solo, 1 assist).

The Excel Christian Warriors led 21-3 after one quarter and 36-3 at halftime.
