Cody Begovich swings big bat for RiverHawks

Here is a breakdown on some Carson Valley athletes who have graduated from high school and now compete in college:


CODY BEGOVICH — Northeastern State University (Tahlequah, Okla.), 2012 Douglas High School graduate: The 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior outfielder wielded a big bat Tuesday when went 2-for-5 with a home run, double and four RBI for undefeated Northeastern State in its 10-3 win at home against Rogers State. Begovich gave the RiverHawks a 3-0 lead in the first inning when he blasted a 2-2 pitch over the right field fence for his first home run of the season. The win boosted Northeastern State’s season record to 5-0. On Jan. 31, Begovich hit 3-for-5 with four RBI in the RiverHawks’ season-opening 19-8 win over East Central.


KELLY SONNEMANN — Humboldt State University, 2014 Douglas graduate: Sonnemann has been starting in left field and hitting second in the lineup for the Lumberjacks, who are off to a 5-1-1 start to their season. The sophomore enjoyed her best outing when she went 2-for-2 with two RBI, one run scored, one walk and one stolen base in a 9-0 win over Colorado State-Pueblo on Feb. 5 at the Dixie State Tournament in St. George, Utah.
