Brooks leads boys golf team in opener
Colin Brooks cracked the top 10 individually to lead the Douglas High boys golf team to third-place in its Sierra League season-opening match last Wednesday at ArrowCreek Country Club in Reno.
Brooks carded a score of 79 to finish eighth and Douglas shot a team score of 473. Tournament-host Galena outdistanced Bishop Manogue by a 365-408 score to take first-place. Carson was fourth at 498.
Douglas coach Evan Evans noted that the sunny weather and course conditions made for a good opener.
“The course was in decent shape for this time of year,” he said. “As a team, we played pretty well.”
Galena’s Scott Rescigno earned medalist honors with his 1-under par 71.
“They have a solid team; they look to be the front runners for the Sierra League,” Evans said of the Grizzlies.
Douglas is scheduled to host a league match on April 6 at Genoa Lakes.
