Pop Warner Tigers win at home
After weeks of preseason training, three Douglas Pop Warner football teams kicked off their season Friday night with home games at Stodick Park.
The Mitey Mites opened at home with a hard-earned 20-19 victory by scoring late in the fourth quarter against the Reno Wolf Pack. Coach Alan Peake said: “Both offense and defense were unrelenting to the very end. We are very proud of our boys for putting in the hard weeks of practice. Hard work paid off in the end.”
The Junior Pee Wee team opened at home with a 25-0 victory against the Carson Senators. Coach Thomas said: “After having two touchdowns called back, the team did not fold but rather rallied to an impressive victory.”
The Pee Wee team opened at home with a 13-0 victory against the Truckee Wolverines. Coach Darren Daniels said: “We were impressed with the efforts delivered by the whole team and were especially pleased with the defense.”
The Unlimited squad opened its season Saturday afternoon with a 33-0 victory against the Fallon Greenwave at Churchill County Regional Park. Coach Mike Dillon said: “It was the first game of the season and the first game for many of the players. We played well and had fun.”
The Tiny Mites showed their Tiger Pride and played a “great game full of excitement and positive memories” Saturday against the Reno Grizzlies at Galena High School.
