Ponderosa Ridge Run on Saturday
The 41st annual Ponderosa Ridge Run 9.5-mile trail race will be held on Saturday.
The race starts at 10 a.m. from the Spooner Summit Maintenance Station on Highway 50 and finishes at the end of Andria Drive off Kingsbury Grade.
The race tests participants with steep climbs — a rise of nearly 2,000 feet in the first 4-1/2 miles — toward the summit near Genoa Peak. The race has no aid stations.
A $2 donation is asked from participants. Survivor ribbons and cold drinks will be provided. All sign-ups are taken at the start.

Genoa Peak Madathon
As if it wasn’t long enough before, the third annual Genoa Peak Madathon trail run is returning on Aug. 8 with an expanded lineup of events.
In addition to the marathon and half-marathon distances from Genoa, the Madathon has added a 55-kilometer distance for “ultra mad runners,” according to race director Kevin Bigley.
They could just as easily be described as mountain climbers considering the marathon course challenges participants with more than 5,000 feet of climbing to the top of 9,150-foot Genoa Peak and back. The half-marathon course rises to an altitude of 6,300 feet. The ultra distance course will be similar to the marathon, with an extra loop on the mountain below Genoa Peak.
The marathon and 55K runs will start at 6 a.m. and the half-marathon at 6:30 a.m. from Genoa Park, located on Nixon Street in downtown Genoa.
