Douglas County man wins King of the Cage match

David Park made his mark at the “King of the Cage” 42 at the Silver Legacy Pavilion, dominating his fight.

Park, 51, dominated Ben Sablan, a tough opponent representing Combined Martial Science and west Coast Brawlers in Chino, Calif.

Park dominated the fight from the start with his strikes and kicks. The initial flurry was followed by a solid takedown. Park continued to control the fight to the end of the first round. In the second and third round Park decisively controlled the fight and took Sablan down several times.

Sablans efforts to escape or gain control of the fight were futile as Park continued to control and chip away at his opponent. Park won the by unanimous decision making his amateur MMA record 1-1.

David Park is a well known local rancher of Park Ranch and Cattle Co, He has been training in MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for several years. Park has also had great success in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments.

Park was a wrestling champion at Douglas High school in the 80s and is currently a 4 stripe Bluebelt in Jiu Jitsu. Park is one of the older competitors in MMA but in spite of his age he trains as hard or harder than any other fighter around and is always a formidable fighter.

His coaches, George and Shelbie Fujii, owners of West Coast Martial Arts and Machado Jiu Jitsu in Gardnerville said, “Mr. Park is a serious, hard working, humble man! He trains almost every day of the week and is a beast regardless of his age. His resilience and work ethic are admirable.”

When asked why he continues to train and compete at such a high level Park says, ”I like to set goals for myself to have something to focus on and train for so I can stay in peak shape.”
