Panthers sweep past South Tahoe

Amanda Hone rang up 16 service points, including 11 aces, on Thursday to help lead the Pau-Wa-Lu Middle School eighth grade volleyball team to a 2-0 Tah-Neva League victory at home against South Tahoe.

Pau-Wa-Lu, now 3-0 on the season, won by game scores of 25-7 and 25-4.

Maddi Smalley contributed four kills, while Emily Carr added two and Hayley Killion one. Taylynn Kizer came up with three digs and Killion one, while Meika Cole had two aces.

The offense was sparked by each of the three setters — Rori Fair, Carmen Cardenas and Amanda Hone — according to coach Rick Jenkins. Deztiny Vaughan played well with three great serves and a great hit, the coach added.

The Pau-Wa-Lu sixth-seventh grade team also swept past South Tahoe by scores of 25-15 and 25-15.

Sage Hubkey scored nine points (two aces), Jessica James eight, Riley Mello six, Ria Axelson six, Meadow Shull five (two aces) and Emma Glover five (two aces).

Hubkey, Mello and James contributed two kills each. Sophia Maricich, Alyssa Jenkins, Glover and Shull also played well on defense, according to coach Dan Hannah.
