Mountain bike finals on Sunday
The Nevada Interscholastic Cycling League’s Sierra Nevada Championships mountain bike races will be held Sunday in Truckee.
The championships starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Tahoe Donner Alder Creek Adventure Center. All participants will compete on a course that measures about 4.1 miles with 500 feet of climbing per lap.
Two Alta Alpina Cycling Club racers, Danner Hillman and Justin Kinser, are competing for season points championships in their respective varsity and freshman boys divisions.
Originally scheduled for this past Sunday, the event was postponed due to a winter storm that hit the region.
Joseph tops in Stableford
Dennis Joseph was the Flight A winner last Wednesday during an Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Golf Club Stableford tournament in Carson City.
Joseph carded a score of 43 to win his flight, three points ahead of Rich Torok. John Tierney took third-place ahead of Fred Coons and Bob Pemberton, who all finished together with scores of 39.
Ties were resolved by comparing scores on selected holes.
Dennis Curd won Flight B with his 43. Gary Mick took second-place on a tie-breaker over Duane Carroll, as both finished at 41. Augie Martinez finished fourth and Ed Cabello fifth, both at 40.
Nils Sharpe was the Flight C winner with his 42, two points ahead of Ivan Lepire. Steve Isaacson took third-place at 39, Norm Scoggin was fourth at 39 and George Allison fifth at 38.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were Al Vernon on Blue No. 5, Tierney on Blue No. 8, Torok on White No. 4 and Allison on White No. 8.
Trick or Suite on Oct. 26
The Reno Aces Baseball Club and Reno 1868 FC United Soccer League team have announced the return of “Trick or Suite” for Oct. 26, from 6-8 p.m. at Greater Nevada Field in Reno.
The annual event allows children to “trick-or-treat” on the suite level in advance of Halloween. Admission is $3 or three canned food items per child. Accompanying adults are permitted free entry. All proceeds benefit the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.
The “Trick or Suite” line will begin at the home plate entrance gate. Other activities at the event include inflatable games, bean bag toss and potato sack races.
At 7 p.m., “Slaughter House” doors open. General admission tickets are available for $17.

Carson Valley Halloween golf
Carson Valley Golf Club has scheduled two tournaments, one in October and one in November.
The Halloween Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 29 and the Turkey Shoot event will be held on Nov. 12
