MEFIYI basketball tournament on June 10
Me-for-Incredible-Youth, Inc. (MEFIYI) is hosting its third annual Carson Valley Days 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on June 10 at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.
Divisions for male, female and coed teams will be available for ages beginning at first grade level.
The competition will begin after the Carson Valley Days Parade. A 1:30 p.m. check-in time is scheduled, followed by the start of games at 2 p.m.
The cost is $45 for a three-player team or $60 for a four-player team. T-shirts are included as part of the fee.

Douglas High volleyball meeting Tuesday
A meeting for Douglas High volleyball parents will be held on Tuesday starting at 6 p.m. in the high school library.
The preseason meeting will provide information regarding the Tigers’ 2017 fall season, according to coach Suzi Townsell.
The Douglas Tigers finished their 2016 as the region tournament runner-up and 4A state tournament qualifier.
Volunteers still needed for Kids’ Fishing Derby
Registration f the 28th annual Kids’ Fishing Derby will continue on Saturday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Walgreen’s in Gardnerville.
Organizers are hoping to reach 1,500 sign-ups for the derby, which is being held on June 3-4 at Lampe Park for children 3-12 years of age. Volunteers are still needed to assist with the derby — “We need at least 200 volunteers to help kids during the Derby,” a spokesman for the event said.
Registration is also available at Accolades Trophies during regular business hours.
Both locations also register derby volunteers and will sell raffle tickets to help pay for fish, prizes, tackle and bait for the kids.
The grand prizes for the raffle this year are a Mad Dog scooter, a kids quad and a $300 gift card from Sportsman’s Warehouse.
Registration forms for mail in will also be available at the Douglas County Parks and Recreation desk in the community center.

Carson Valley Days volleyball set
Adult and youth players alike will be part of the action when the ninth annual Carson Valley Days Grass Volleyball Tournament is held on June 11 at Lampe Park.
Registration for the Sunday tournament will open at 8 a.m. followed by the start of play at 9 a.m. on grass courts next to the Carson Valley Days Carnival on the east side of the park.
There will be 4-on-4 divisions for open, women and coed and 6-on-6 youth divisions for fifth-sixth graders, seventh-eighth graders and high school (non-varsity).
Registration fees are $60 for adult teams (players must be 16 or older) and $30 for youth teams (players must be under 18 on game day). Entries are due by June 7.

Douglas football fundraiser under way
Douglas High’s football program has launched its annual sale of “Tiger Discount Cards.”
The sale, which continues through May 25, raises funds for the Douglas varsity, JV and freshmen football teams.
The cost of the discount card is $15 and can be used at various businesses around the community. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help cover various costs of the Douglas program’s three levels, including the varsity team’s season opening game on Aug. 26 in Pocatello, Idaho. The Tigers will face Rigby High School as part of the Best Of The West Rocky Mountain Rumble at Holt Arena.

Douglas alumni golf tournament on June 16
The Douglas High School football program will host its sixth annual alumni golf tournament June 16 at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
The Friday tournament starts at 9 a.m. with a post-tournament luncheon to follow at the Carson Valley Country Club.
The cost is $100 per person for those who register before May 1 ($125 afterward) or $400 for a foursome. Hole sponsorships are available for $100.
