Two-time Super Bowl champion Jim McMahon will appear as a special guest during the “Fore the Kids” Charity Golf weekend on May 13-14 at the Genoa Lakes Ranch Course in Genoa.

The weekend festivities begin on May 13 with a Friday night meet and greet at the Douglas County Community & Center from 5-7 p.m. McMahon will visit with the community, sign autographs, take pictures and an auction will be held for two lucky winners to play golf with him the next day.

The charity golf tournament kicks off on May 14 with check-in at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9.

“We are thrilled about this year’s event,” noted Renea Louie, the event’s founder with her husband, Gary. “We’ve already generated a ton of excitement and support for the event.”

McMahon is excited to attend the event as he has attended the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament in Lake Tahoe since its start 26 years ago.

During those 26 years, McMahon said he has many great memories of Douglas County and the community, and he is passionate about youth programs. He has made many friends and has always been a friend to Northern Nevada.

“Some of the best times I ever had are here in Douglas County, Nevada,” McMahon said. “I am happy to be able to help raise needed money for their community center and youth programs.”

McMahon, now 56, was a star quarterback in college at Brigham Young University and in 1986 helped guide the Chicago Bears to a 46-10 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX. McMahon was also a backup quarterback for the Green Bay Packers during their Super Bowl XXXI victory in 1997.

In the 1980 Holiday Bowl, McMahon led BYU to three late touchdowns, including a 41-yard Hail Mary pass to Clay Brown as time expired to give the Cougars a 46-45 victory.

The “Fore the Kids” 18-hole scramble promises a considerable amount of fun and includes a silent auction, raffle prizes and some surprises along the way on the golf course. Among the prizes due to be given away is a brand new car from title sponsor Michael Hohl.

“There is nothing like bringing the community together and supporting Carson Valley and Lake Tahoe youth,” Renea Louie said. “The event will include great food and drink, incredible golf at beautiful Genoa Lakes, and of course, our coming together to raise money to invest back into this community we all call home.”

Additional title sponsors include CORE Construction, Starbucks Roasting Plant, RE/MAX, Pro Group Management and Genoa Ranch Golf Course-based Finish 3 Golf Academy.
