Maule headed for New Mexico
Former Douglas High soccer standout Jessica Maule has signed with the New Mexico Highlands, a Division II school in Las Vegas, N.M., to finish out her college career.
Maule spent the past two years starting for the Western Nevada Community College Wildcats in their first two years of existence.
She was named the team’s offensive player of the year her freshman season and she was instrumental in helping WNCC reach the national tournament in her sophomore season. She earned all-conference honors during her second season.
“It was a great experience at WNCC,” Maule said. “My cousin (Keith Jardine) played football at New Mexico Highlands and we just went down there to check it out.
“I had a tryout in December and I guess they liked what they saw.”
Maule, a center midfielder, plans on majoring in criminal justice and hopes to get into the field of law enforcement or into pre-law.
“I just want to go down there, work on my degree and have fun,” she said.
She’ll head down in August for the beginning of practice, but plans on playing in a coed league this summer.
Maule was a four-year varsity player for Douglas and established herself as one of the most prolific tacklers in the region during her high school career.
