Masters team takes championship

The Carson Valley Manatee Masters Swim Club won the small team championship at the Pacific Masters Championships held April 17-19 at the Santa Clara, Calif. International Swim Center.

The team victory was the result of all eight swimmers having a number of good swims and four strong relays.

Especially noteworthy were the performances of Kyle Hamilton, who finished third in the 50 breaststroke (36.4 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:20.4); Cindi Burrows, who finished second in the 50 freestyle (28.5) and 1,000 free (12:40.6); and Rob Bastien, who finished second in the 1,650 (19:16.6) and 1,000 (11:27.0).

Mark Mills swam to personal best times in the 100 butterfly (1:05.5), 200 butterfly (2:26.6) and 400 individual medley (5:36.4). Steve Figueroa placed fourth in the 50 butterfly (27.0) and Sherwin Gormley finished fourth in the 50 freestyle (51.9), 100 freestyle (1:02.2) and 100 individual medley.

Todd Connelly finished seventh in the 500 freestyle (5:42.0) and ninth in the 200 freestyle (2:04.4). Kirk Chiapella competed in the 100 freestyle (58.7) and 50 butterfly (29.8).
