Local athletes race in Lake Tahoe Ironman, Triathlon events

Pike Reardon of Gardnerville took 226th overall and 16th in his men’s 50-54 age group on Sept. 20 at the Lake Tahoe Ironman.

Reardon, 51, completed the 140.6-mile distance in a time of 12 hours, 11 minutes, 53 seconds on a day when clear blue skies and warm temperatures greeted an international field of about 2,000 athletes.

The triathlon consisted of a 2.4-mile swim off the shore of Kings Beach, a 112-mile bike ride that looped through the North Shore and Truckee, and 26.2-mile run through Olympic Valley and along the Truckee River.

Reardon was timed in 1:00:25 for the swim, 5:23:12 for the cycling leg and 5:23:12 for the run.

Gregory Lindquist, 33, from Boulder, Colo., raced to victory in the ironman race, crossing the finish in 9:39:23. Sonja Wieck, 36, of Greenwood Village, Colo., led the women’s field in 10:28:55.

The event also included a 70.3-mile Ironman 70.3 on the same course but measured half the distance of the full Ironman.

Lesley Tuggle won her women’s 65-69 age group in a time of 7:36:59. She had times of 43:26 for the swim, 3:45:21 for the bike and 2:51:42 for the run. Alisa Ashbaugh of Gardnerville finished in the women’s 40-44 competition with a time of 7:37:06 (54:44 swim, 3:45:47 bike and 2:32:16 for the run).

Lake Tahoe Triathlon

Reardon took fourth-place overall and first in his age group on Aug. 23 at the Lake Tahoe Triathlon. Reardon completed the 70.3-mile half-ironman distance from Sugar Pine Point State Park in 4:57:10 to win his age group by more than nine minutes. He was timed in 32:21 for the 1.2-mile swim in Lake Tahoe, 2:42:52 for the 56-mile cycling leg and 1:39:06 for the 13.1-mile half-marathon run.

Donatas Ereminas of Truckee won the race in 4:26:37, followed by Mitchell Murphy of Reno (4:50:48) and Brett Long of Carson City (4:55:39).

Meanwhile, Rick Atherton of Minden emerged as the men’s 55-59 age group winner and 29th overall finisher with a time of 5:50:02. He had times of 43:03 for the swim, 2:59:22 on the bicycle and 2:02:21 for the run.

Clinton Hill Holeman, 16, of Gardnerville finished 11th overall and third in his age group in the Olympic event — nine-tenths of a mile swim, 25-mile bike and 6.7-mile run — in 3:02:00.

Gardnerville’s Janet Lindsey, 57, also finished in 4:14:03 and Christina Brown, 36, in 4:15:48.

In the sprint event held on Aug. 22 — 500-meter swim, 10-mile bike and 2-mile run — Hill-Holeman placed fifth overall on Aug. 22 in the sprint triathlon in 56:40. Taylen Simms of Gardnerville placed fourth in the men’s 20-24 age group with a time of 1:07:18. Simms was clocked in 10:55 for the swim, 37:05 for the bike, 15:41 for the run. Alyscn Simms placed fifth in the women’s 40-44 age group in 1:16:05 (11:56 in the swim) and Katy Parodi was eighth in 1:19:27. Gardnerville’s Allison Wall finished 12th in the women’s 35-39 division in 1:24:38, Clare Frank of Genoa was seventh in the women’s 50-54 division in 1:25:03 and Mickey Kriethe of Gardnerville took fifth in the women’s 55-59 division in 1:53:46.

Al Trace, 61, of Minden was 177th and third in his age group with a time of 1:24:23. Gardnerville’s Kyle Hoffman placed fifth in the men’s 40-44 division in 1:08:06 and Tom Kriethe was third in the men’s 65-69 division in 2:03:31.
