Little League Cardinals rally to title
June 13, 2017
With Carson Valley Days carnival lights flashing nearby, two Little League rival teams were busy putting on a pretty good show in their own right Thursday and Friday at Lampe Park.
And in the end, the Carson Valley Little League Minor AA Cardinals were able complete a comeback run in the double-elimination playoff tournament when they bested the Cubs on back-to-back nights in the championship round — 8-5 on a windy and cold Thursday night and then 7-0 in a chilly final on Friday. Even though the Cardinals only had two of their six pitchers available for Friday due to Little League pitching limit rules, their bats came alive in the second inning to take a lead that stood the rest of the way.
The league regular season champion Cubs (10-3 record) defeated the fourth-place Cardinals (8-5-1) on May 30, however, the Cardinals scrapped back through the bracket to win three straight elimination games to earn a rematch against the Cubs in the championship round.
The Cardinals edged the Yankees on June 3, 6-5, and then the A's on June 6, 6-1, to reach the final.
