Lightning 98 win softball tournament title

The Nevada Lightning all-star team captured championship honors in its Gold Division last weekend at the ASA Memorial Day Classic in the Sacramento area.

Douglas High products Allison Meyer and Corryne Diaz helped the Nevada Lightning 98 softball team capture the 18U Gold Division championship last weekend at the ASA Memorial Classic in the Sacramento area.

The Lightning, an all-star team that features top high school players from around the region, went 8-1 during a three-day tournament that showcased 30 of the best teams from Northern Nevada and Northern California. The Lightning outscored their opposition by a combined 71-11 score and clinched the championship on Monday with a 4-3 victory against Foothill Gold, a Sacramento area squad.

Meyer is a recent Douglas High graduate who has signed to play softball at George Fox University. Diaz is heading into her senior year at Douglas.

In addition to the two Douglas players, team members include Aubrey Slocum, Jamie Romero, Rachel Self, Caitlyn Wood, Baileigh Loux, Christie Betker, Nicole Renner and Hayley Fein. The team coaches are Brad Betker, Jeff Romero and Michael Romero.
