Lady Tigers topple Wooster
In just one week, the Douglas girls’ basketball team went from being 0-3 and struggling to find a rhythm on the court, to 4-3 and looking once again like a Sierra League playoff contender.
“The girls have been playing hard and they are starting to figure this system out,” Douglas coach Werner Christen said. “They’ve been finding the extra pass and making some good cuts on offense. We’re still young, but they’re starting to figure out who they are.”
Douglas got points from all but two of its players as the Tigers extended their win streak to four Tuesday night with a 59-32 win at Wooster.
Monica Knight led an extremely balanced scoring effort with nine points.
Allie Hughes, Sarah Hartley and Jessica Waggoner each scored eight points, Nicole Didero scored six and Bridget Maestretti scored five.
Kristin Wyatt scored three points and Autumn Burtt, Kayla Horse, Gina Pfaffenberger and Felicia Imelli each scored two.
Douglas outscored the Colts 18-3 in the first quarter and 22-9 in the second, coasting to the win from there.
The Tigers are now 8-13 overall and 4-3 in Sierra League play. Douglas hosts Carson tonight at 5:15 p.m. and Damonte Ranch Saturday at 3:15 p.m.
The Tigers improved their Sierra League record to 5-2 with a 61-18 win over Wooster.

All eight Tiger players scored in the win, led by Michelle Richardson, who had 13 points and eight rebounds.
Jaime Henry scored 12, Katie Buffo had nine points and nine steals, Bailee Culver and Amanda Gangwish scored eight points each and Gangwish had seven steals.
Sarah Phillips scored six and had seven rebounds. Jaclyn Neddenriep had three points and Jamie Greer had two.
With half the season int he books, the Douglas freshmen girls are now 6-1 in league and 15-3 overall coming off a 55-10 win over Wooster.
Helen Fillmore and Taryn Williams led the scoring with 12 points each. Ally Freitas had 10 points and Megan Mitchitarian had seven.
