JV/Frosh Roundup: JV boys’ soccer tops Spanish Springs

The Douglas High junior varsity boys’ soccer team picked up a 2-1 win over Spanish Springs Friday night.

Giovanni Baltazar-Hernandez assisted on goals by Carlos Lopez and Emanuel Montoya to lead the Douglas JV team to a 2-1 win over Spanish Springs.

Douglas is 3-5-2 on the year.

Douglas won 2-1 against a solid Spanish Springs squad on Saturday.

The Tigers outshot the Cougars 8-5 in the game, with the first goal coming on a one-touch shot from Hannah Schweigert off a corner from Lyndsey Grujcic in the sixth minute.

Douglas put its second goal up in the 21st minute on a left-foot shot from Schweigert on another assist from Grujcic.

Shayla Gransbery had a strong game in net for the Tigers and received a solid defensive effort from Hannah Colbert, Ashley Hellwinkle, Ashley Melandow and Maradan Moyle.

Holland Chambers, Megan Sheets and Karla Meza helped hold down the middle at Douglas improved to 9-1 on the year.

Eatlier in the week, Douglas topped Wooster 4-0, posting its sixth shutout of the season.

Samantha Crawford scored on an assist from Olivia Abbott to get the Tigers going.

Crawford scored again on an assist from Melandow with 4:30 remaining in the first half and added a third unassisted in the second half.

She completed her four-goal outburst with an unassisted shot off her left foot later in the game.

Douglas outshot Wooster 21-2 in the game.

Tory Pieter and Maradan Moyle contributed on offense while the defense kept the ball away from the Tiger net. Gransbery had one save in posting the shutout.

Douglas defeated Wooster 25-17, 25-18 on Thursday and beat Damonte Ranch 28-26, 25-19 on Tuesday.

Against Wooster, Kristina Barnum had three kills and two aces while Jessa Gansberg had four kills and a block.

Sasha Rushinock had seven kills and two aces in the win over Damonte while Kaitlin Godde had five aces.

Douglas beat Wooster 23-25, 25-16, 15-10 on Thursday, getting an ace and five kills from Maddie Parks, six aces from Lydia Lemmings and four aces and one kill from Morgan Gunnel.

Against Damonte Ranch, Savannah Allmett had five kills, Lydia Lemmings had one ace and five kills and Layne Waggoner had three aces and three kills.
