JROTC competes in Legion shoot

Staff Reports

The top three finishers from the recent American Legion Air Rifle Tournament held at Douglas High School display their awards. Shown from the left are David Granish, Carson City American Legion Capital Post No. 4, Lindsay Carr, who placed third, Benjamin Baxter, who took first-place, Liam Fitzpatrick, who placed second, and Robert Beckett, American Legion representative.

Benjamin Baxter, Liam Fitzpatrick and Lindsay Carr were the top award winners from Douglas High School during the American Legion Air Rifle Tournament held on Jan. 25 at the high school's indoor shooting range.

American Legion Capital Post 4 in Carson City helped sponsor the Douglas High Junior ROTC rifle program for the tournament, which is conducted on a regional, state and national level. After the competition, the targets were sent to American Legion Headquarters in Indianapolis for scoring.

Baxter, a senior, captured first-place in the Douglas event. Fitzpatrick, a junior, took second-place and Carr, a sophomore, took third-place.

A total of 13 Douglas JROTC cadets participated, according to Douglas JROTC Director Major Bud Ford, who directed the event along with Sgt. 1st Class Brian Johnson.

The shoot served as the season finale for the Douglas JROTC shooting team.

"They were dedicated and did a good job all season," Ford said of the team.
