The Carson Valley HotShots 10U softball team earned its second ASA tournament title in the past two weeks last Sunday in Napa, Calif.

The HotShots were perfect on the weekend, topping three straight Bay Area opponents during Saturday’s pool play, including the Vallejo Hurricanes (13-2), Santa Rosa Rug Rats (8-1) and Pleasant Hill Panthers (7-6).

The Carson Valley club beat the Panthers again (13-1) during single-elimination bracket play on Sunday and then faced the San Jose Quicksilvers in the championship game. The HotShots prevailed 5-2 to claim the gold bracket title.

“The league (Carson Valley Fastpitch) joined ASA this past spring in order to elevate the playing experience for our young athletes,” said coach Joey McNinch. “I’m thrilled to see our girls performing so well against new competition. We have had a great two weeks of tournament play; the girls are playing well, and learning every game.”

On Saturday, several HotShots pitchers had opportunities to help the team in the circle. Kylee Lange, Rylee Wyman, Anna Sharpe, Talia Tretton and Bre Williams each contributed to the pool play wins.

“We have several young pitchers on the team, so it’s great to be able to give them an opportunity to pitch,” said McNinch. “We were also able to give all our batters a chance at the plate during pool play.”

On Sunday, Williams was the ace pitcher for the HotShots, as she pitched a combined nine innings, facing 36 batters, and striking out 18.

At the plate on Sunday, Williams (1 double, 1 single, 2 RBI), Wyman (1 home run, 2 singles, 3 RBI), Addie Doerr (3 singles, 1 RBI), Jessika Gmitter (3 singles, 1 RBI), Neveah Kizer (2 doubles, 3 singles, 4 RBI), Aspen Tollmann (2 singles, 2 RBIs), Tretton (single, RBI), Malia Deleon (single), Eva McNinch (single) and Ryleigh Blaire (single) all contributed for the HotShots.

Also in the Napa tournament, the 8U HotShots dropped a 1-0 verdict to the Petaluma Steal Breeze in the championship game on Sunday. The HotShots advanced to the finals thanks to a 6-3 win over the Sutter Butte Thunder.

The 12U HotShots won their single elimination opener on Sunday 13-0 against the Marin Tremors and then lost 3-0 to the eventual champion Livermore Smoke.

The HotShots’ two 8U teams, 10U, 12U and 14U play in the All-World Fastpitch World Series today through Sunday in Carson City.
