Danner Hillman is out in front of the lead pack Sunday during the Nevada Interscholastic Cycling League's mountain bicycle Sierra Nevada Championships at the Tahoe Donner Alder Creek Adventure Center in Truckee. Hillman, riding for the Alta Alpina Cycling Club, placed third in the race. Participantscompeted on a course that measures about 4.1 miles with 500 feet of climbing per lap. Hillman is also running for the Douglas High boys cross country team today at the Northern Region Championships in Sparks (see related story).

Danner Hillman took third-place in the varsity boys race on Oct. 23 at the Sierra Nevada Championships high school and middle school mountain bicycle races in Truckee.

Hillman, a Douglas High School senior who rides for the Alta Alpina Cycling Club, was in the thick of a back-and-forth race through three laps. He finished with an overall time of one hour, 16 minutes and 9.92 seconds on a course that measured about 4.19 miles per lap with 500 feet of climbing at the Tahoe Donner Alder Creek Adventure Center. North Tahoe High's Ross Tester won the race in 1:13:53.10, less than two seconds ahead of Galena High senior Austin Smith.

All three took turns in the lead during the finale of a four-race fall series hosted by the Nevada Interscholastic Cycling League.
