Harker receives DHS football scholarship
June 19, 2017
Alex Harker was announced as the Douglas High football team's Senior Scholarship recipient Friday during the sixth annual Alumni Golf Tournament at the Carson Valley Golf Course.
More than 100 players participated in the tournament, which raises funds for the scholarship.
For Harker, who will attend the University of Nevada this fall, the scholarship is worth $1,000 per year for four years. He was selected by the alumni scholarship committee from a list of three applicants, including Haydn Brown and Reagan Roberson, according to Douglas coach Ernie Monfiletto.
"I'm honored to have coached all three of those kids," Monfiletto said. "All three are quality kids and a great reflection of our program."
Harker was a first-team all-league and second-team all-region cornerback who helped the Tigers post a 6-5 record and second-place finish in the Sierra League last fall. His season highlight was a pick-six — a 27-yard interception return — at the end of the third quarter in the Tigers' regular season-ending 31-17 win at Carson.
Monfiletto also announced five Douglas graduates who will be inducted into the school's Football Hall of Fame this fall: Bill Shaw, Jeff Nady, Spike Agosta, Frank Pitts and Jeff Booth.
