Gregory, Jackson win races in Carson City
Douglas High freshmen Addison Gregory and Cody Jackson ran to first-place in their 3,200-meter races Thursday during the Great Sierra Frosh-Soph Invitational in Carson City.
Gregory led the Tigers’ 1-2-3 sweep of the girls 3,200 with a time of 13:14.61, followed by teammates Quincy Russell (13:50.77) and Isabella Tierney (17:15.05) at Carson High’s Jim Frank Track and Field Complex. Gregory also placed second in the 1,600 with a 5:59.30 effort.
Meanwhile, Jackson won the boys eight-lap race in 11:59.64 to lead a Douglas sweep. He was followed by teammates Matthew Kruse (12:04.27) and Steven Shaw (12:22.69) in second- and third-place.
Douglas took second-place in the boys 4×100 relay as Trenton Riley, Damon Jennings, Race Coman and Hayden Litka ran 50.05. The Tigers also placed second in the girls 4×100 as Lilyan Slais, Sandra Cubrillo, Anna Garcia and Patricia Duarte ran 58.78.
Cassidy Vardas-Doane placed second in the girls shot put (29-0) and high jump (4-6). Duarte also placed second in the girls triple jump (30-4-1/4).
