Grant Denny places fifth in Reno Rodeo bareback
Grant Denny of Minden finished strong to secure fifth-place in bareback riding Saturday night at the 98th Reno Rodeo.
Denny, 24, turned in the third best performance during Saturday’s short go at the Reno Livestock Events Center and finished fifth in the average with a score of 239. He had a score of 81.5 aboard Peppy Bound on Saturday.
Denny put himself in good position one night before when he took second-place for the round behind Justin Miller of Billings, Mont., with a 78.5 on Big Bend Rodeo’s Moon Shadow. Denny scored a 79 on Thursday.
Wyatt Denny, Grant’s younger brother, was in first-place coming into the short-go, however, he was unable to maintain the momentum from solid performances the previous Sunday and Monday.
Wyatt Bloom, a rookie from Bend, Ore., posted an impressive score of 87.5 on Rosser Rodeo’s Flood Tide on Saturday, pushing him from third place to the championship with an overall score of 249.5. Miller captured second-place with an overall score of 247.5.
Notes … Wyatt is now 17th in the PRCA world bareback standings ($34,055.57) and Grant has moved up to 37th ($13,432.03). … Wyatt tied for fourth-place Friday in Santa Fe, N.M., with an 81.
