Lyons, Goff help Ducks split twin-bill
Matthew Goff and Elijah Lyons combined for six hits and six RBI to help spark the Douglas Ducks 16U summer baseball team to a 14-3 victory against Bishop Manogue on Saturday in Reno.
Goff hit 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI, while Lyons went 3-for-4 and drove three runs home in the second game as Douglas salvaged a split of the doubleheader. Manogue won the opener, 8-3.
Douglas broke the second game open with an eight-run fifth inning rally. Goff’s two-run double to left field drove in two runs and gave the Ducks a 3-0 lead in the first inning and he doubled to lead off a three-run rally in the fourth that put the Ducks on top, 6-0.
Cuinn Doherty also hit 2-for-2 with two RBI for the Ducks, while Gage Hoyle went 1-for-1 with a double that drove two runs home.
Hoyle pitched four scoreless innings, allowed six hits to go with four strikeouts and two walks, as he picked up credit for the win. Manogue scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning.
Play was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
In game one, Manogue rallied from an early two-run deficit to take a 3-2 lead and then scored five runs in the sixth inning.
Lyons delivered a two-run single in the first inning to put the Ducks on top, 2-0. Nathaniel Samaro tripled and scored the team’s final run in the seventh.
Lyons pitched five innings, allowed three hits and three runs (two earned) for the Ducks.
Douglas also posted a 10-9 win against North Valleys on Thursday at Douglas High School. Tre Pimental went 2-for-3 with one RBI and Donovan Gransbery 1-for-2 with a two-run single in the first inning for the Ducks.
