Girls’ Soccer: Lady Tigers fend off Mustangs

Staff Reports

The Douglas High girls’ soccer team kept rolling Saturday afternoon, although it had to hang on to a lone, late goal to do so.

The Lady Tigers topped Damonte Ranch 1-0 in Reno, thanks to an unassisted goal from freshman

Gabriella Vega in the 60th minute.

The Douglas defense posted its ninth shutout of the season and goal keeper Bri Randall made five saves in recording her 27th career solo shutout. She has four solo shutouts this season.

Vega’s goal was the third of her career.

Douglas improved to 14-0 overall on the year and 9-0 in Northern 4A play to maintain its hold on first place in the Sierra League. The Tigers have now won 22 consecutive games (seven better than the previous best in school history) and have gone unbeaten in their last 28 contests (11 better than the program’s previous best streak from 2002 to 2003.)

Both streaks are the longest active streaks of their kind at any level, boys’ or girls’, in the state.
