Girls’ basketball: Tigers roll over South Tahoe
February 1, 2005
Douglas had nine different players put points on the board as the Tigers rolled to a season-best 67 points on 30 field goals in a 67-26 win over South Tahoe Tuesday night at South Tahoe.
Douglas coach Werner Christen attributed the Tigers’ offensive explosion to solid ball movement.
“I thought we passed the ball real well tonight,” Christen said. “We did a good job of finding that open man and creating mismatches with our passing.”
The Tigers’ previous team scoring best was 66 points against Hug – a game that the Douglas hit 26 free throws in.
On Tuesday night, Douglas only took five total shots from the free throw line, making two of them.

Every thing else came from the field, including five 3-pointers as a team.
“We shot the ball very well and made the shots we were supposed to make,” Christen said. “I really liked the flow tonight.”
The win came on the heels of the Tiger’s first league loss of the season Saturday, a setback at Reno.
“Tonight was really just a chance for us to start over and take a breath of fresh air,” Christen said. “We told them just to relax and think of tonight as kind of a reset.”
Brittany Puzey led the Tigers with 22 points and Kellei Kizer scored nine on three 3-pointers.
Autumn Burtt scored eight and Erin Brinkmeyer and Bridget Maestretti each scored seven.
Douglas distanced itself with an 18-0 run in the first quarter, highlighted by same outstanding defensive plays from Jessie Kizer.
The Tigers didn’t allow the Vikings double-digit scoring in any of the quarters.
Douglas wraps up its home season this weekend with senior night against Hug at 5:15 p.m. Friday and a game against Reno at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
Douglas scored an exciting comeback victory as Toni Peete hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining and Kayla Horse scored the game-winner as time expired in a 39-37 victory for the Tigers at South Tahoe Tuesday night.
