Foursome wins Empire Ranch tourney

Fred Olesek, Adam Huber, Steve Scharfe and George Flamer won their flight last Wednesday during an Empire Ranch Senior Men's Golf Club Stableford tournament in Carson City.
They combined to shoot a net 94 for first-place in Flight A during the Irish 4-ball tournament at Empire Ranch Golf Course. The format calls for one best ball on the first hole, two best balls on No. 2 and three best balls on No. 3. The sequence repeats for 18 holes.
Nick Paul, John Masiello, Jim Green and John Lewis carded a 93 to place second in the flight. Third-place was decided by a tie-breaker, as Robey Willis, Dustin Carroll, Dennis Justin and Geoff Swann finished at 90. Bruce Serpa, Gary Dalen, Jim Shabi and John Tierney finished fourth, also at 90.
Al Giannotti, Donnie Curd, Greg Bentley and Skip Yokota emerged as the Flight B winners with their 101, two points ahead of Nils Sharpe, Tom Welton, Steve Isaacson and Martin Johnson at 99. Bill Bowers, Andrew Warner, Rene Ojeda and Bob Eisle took third-place at 98. Paul Lockwood, Ray Huntley, Joe Gibson and Tom Harlow finished fourth at 94.
Closest-to-the-pin winners were Jim Shabi on the fifth hole of the Blue Course, Nils Sharpe on Blue No. 8 and Fred Olesek on two Red Course holes, No. 3 and No. 8.
