Football: Wolves blast Serpents
The Coleville Wolves football team moved to 7-0 on the season after dominating the hosting Mineral County Serpents 78-6. The victory gives the Wolves a two game lead at the top of the standing with only two home games remaining.
Quarterback Josiah Huhta bounced back after struggling the week before with a 15-for-22 passing performance for 202 yards and five touchdowns without an interception.
Emmi Sandoval led the Coleville receivers with nine receptions for 123 yards including two touchdown receptions. Kambel Kenaston had two touchdown receptions and ended the day with 39 receiving yards. Mat Randall caught one pass for a 10-yard touchdown.
Tailback John “Buh” Hamilton had another outstanding rushing game with 298 yards on the ground and 3 rushing touchdowns. Shane Parker who missed four games with an ankle injury also had a rushing touchdown.
The Wolves defense turned in its most dominating performance of the season by holding the explosive Mineral County offense to only 6 points and 54 yards of total offense. Coleville’s defense forced three turnovers including an interception that was returned 27 yards for a touchdown by Emmi Sandoval and a fumble that was returned 9 yards for a second defensive touchdown by Shane Parker. Also playing huge roles in Coleville’s defense effort were Tyler Summers, Buh Hamilton, Mat Randall, and Andrew Reed.
“I thought we played our most complete game of the season. Our defensive effort was outstanding and I continue to be very happy with our offensive and defensive linemen who continue to play very well despite being undersized,” commented Coach Sandy following the game.
Coleville will celebrate its homecoming on Saturday with a 1 p.m. game against Eureka.
