Football: JV picks up first win against Galena

Reese Kizer hammered home a 32-yard field goal with 1:20 left in the game to give the Douglas junior varsity football team a 29-27 win Thursday night at home against Galena.
Tyler Tintsman rushed for 129 yards on 14 carries and Phil Mannelly ran for 84 yards to lead the Tigers on the ground. Jake Williams passed for 150 yards on seven completions and Steven Passalaqua caught six passes for 103 yards.
The teams battled back and forth throughout the game with Douglas scoring on a 45-yard run by Mannelly to answer Galena’s first touchdown.
The offensive line led the way down the field on a 78-yard run by Tintsman.
Williams hit Passalaqua for a 63-yard touchdown pass to head into the locker room down 20-19.
After Galena opened the second half with a touchdown, Tintsman returned the ensuing kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown.

Mannelly led the defense with seven tackles and two sacks and Kizer recorded six tackles and one interception. Cole Hamzik added five tackles.
The Douglas freshman football squad hung on late to take a 14-13 win over Galena.
The defense came up with a fourth-and-one stop late in the game and a big stop on a two-point conversion to clinch the victory.
Coach Brent Eddy credited his defensive line for keeping pressure on the Galena quarterback through most of the game.
Brock Peterson led the Tigers offensively with 12 carries for 106 yards.
Will Sherrin had 13 carries for 60 yards and Anthony Alvitre had one touchdown on six carries for 63 yards.
Quarterback Kanin Aldridge was 4-for-6 for 22 yards and a touchdown and Kevin Emm had one catch for 12 yards and a touchdown.
