Fallon hands Tiger volleyball its first loss
The Douglas volleyball team followed its most impressive victory of the season with its first loss Tuesday at home against Fallon.
The Tigers, who dominated South Tahoe – the only team to extend them to five games this season -in three games in the Vikings’ gym last Thursday, couldn’t achieve the same level of intensity against the Greenwave.
“Fallon played well and we didn’t come out prepared,” said DHS senior setter Kaycee Green. “I wouldn’t say it was a letdown, but I think we were in a more relaxed state than we should have been.”
Lulu Sewell had 19 kills to lead the Tigers. Green dished out 14 assists. Rebecca Rippee had 12 digs to lead the defensive effort. Darshaya Mustacchio and Sewell each had two blocks.
With the win, Fallon improved to 13-2. Douglas is 14-1.
Green said the loss didn’t devastate the Tigers.
“We were pretty much OK with it,” she said. “We’d rather take a loss now than in zone.
“We know we’re not invincible and we’re going to have to keep working hard.”
The Tigers will have their endurance tested next week when they play three matches in three days. They will travel to play Reno High on Tuesday, will play host to Carson on Wednesday and then will play at Hug High on Thursday.
