Track and field clinic on Saturday

U.S. Track and Field (USATF) workshops for officials will be held Saturday in Carson City.
These free workshops at Carson High School are designed for men and women who are interested in helping as competition event officials during track and field meets. Registration opens at 8:45 a.m. and the clinics will continue until 4:30 p.m.
Participants who help at high schools as well as middle schools are welcome.
Participants are encouraged to attend any one or all of the four workshops. Some time will be spent on the track and at the field events.
The first session from 9-10:30 a.m. will have three workshop options available, including throws (shot put and discus), umpiring track events, as well as the pole vault and high jump. The second session from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. will cover implement inspections for throws, long jump and triple jump, as well as starting and finish line situations. After a lunch break, the third session from 1:15-2:45 p.m. will again cover throws, horizontal jumps and vertical jumps. And the final session from 3-4:30 p.m. will cover clerking, umpiring track events as well as the start and finish lines.
Instructors include USATF officials Deri Bowen, John Bowen, Shirley Connors, Anthony Davis, Bob Dietrich, Mike Louisiana, Beth Price, Jon Price and Robin Williams.

Wrestling clinic in April
The Douglas High School wrestling team will host a clinic over a span of four weeks in April.
The clinic for youngsters ages 5-16 will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Douglas High small gym. The dates are April 3 and 5, April 10 and 12, April 17 and 19, April 24 and 26. The cost is $125.
Instruction in basic fundamentals will be offered in a variety of areas, including stance and motion, single leg and double leg moves, Half Nelson, pinning combinations, escapes and switches, situational wrestling, and in the final session, full matches will be held. Youth volleyball set
Registration is open for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation coed youth volleyball leagues for students from elementary through high school.
These leagues are designed for beginner to advanced players, emphasizing skill development and fun competition. There will be third/fourth, fifth/sixth, seventh/eighth and
ninth-12th grade leagues. Participants will be randomly assigned to a team through a draft system. All games will be played on weeknights with at least one practice set aside each week.
The cost is $80 for early registration through March 6 and $90 after that date.
Volunteer coaches are needed for the program (applicants must pass a background check).

Adult sports registration open
Registration for the Douglas County Parks and Recreation adult open basketball league will remain open through March 10.
All registration is based on first come first serve basis. Team rosters are limited to 15 players. Each team will play eight regular season games and the top eight teams will advance to a postseason single elimination tournament. The season is scheduled to begin on March 24.
The team registration fee is $550 through March 3 and $600 after that date.
Also, registration is being accepted for the parks and recreation adult spring volleyball leagues through March 20.
Women's 6-on-6 (Mondays) and coed B 6-on-6 (Thursdays) leagues are available. The season is scheduled to begin on March 26.
Each team will play a minimum of 12 regular season games and participation in a post-season single elimination tournament. Rosters are limited to 12 players.

The Silver Oak Golf Course Senior Men's Club in Carson City is accepting applications for its 2017 season through April 1.
