Douglas volleyball tops Galena

Isabelle Peterson and Anna Bertolone put down 13 and 11 kills respectively Tuesday night to help the Douglas High volleyball team sweep to its Sierra League win at Galena in Reno.

The Tigers won by scores of 25-20, 25-10, 25-10.

In terms of hitting efficiency, Bertolone hit .500 and Peterson hit .435 for Douglas (11-4 league, 22-9 overall). Hailey Hughes also contributed four kills and five blocks.

Talyn Jackson turned in a solid all-around performance that included 23 assists, 13 service points (five aces), five kills and nine digs.

Erika Leitenbauer led the defense with 12 digs.

Douglas begins play in the Northern Division I Region Tournament on Tuesday at a site to be determined by the outcome of its regular season-ending match Thursday against Carson. The region semifinals will be played Thursday and the finals on Saturday at Galena. The 4A state tournament will be played Nov. 11-12 at Damonte Ranch in Reno.


Douglas defeated Galena 25-23, 25-13.


Galena defeated Douglas 25-14, 25-20. Rachael Hollar had four serving aces for the Tigers and Mayci Mariani three kills.
