Douglas volleyball sweeps McQueen

Talyn Jackson and Hailey Hughes combined to put down 17 kills Tuesday night as the Douglas High volleyball team swept to a 3-0 season-opening win at home against McQueen.

Jackson, a 5-foot-11 senior setter/outside hitter, had 10 kills and Hughes, a 6-1 junior middle blocker, added seven kills and six blocks to help the Tigers win in the Northern 4A conference opener for both teams.

Douglas won by set scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-19.

Madison Rozier handed out 15 assists and Robyne Foster nine for Douglas (1-0 league). Alex Robinson had 14 points, including two aces, and Rozier had 11. Erika Leitenbauer contributed 11 digs, while Jackson and Rozier added eight each. Hannah Kyle had five kills.

McQueen (0-1, 2-1) saw its 2016 season end with a 3-0 region tournament loss at Douglas.

Note: Junior outside hitter Sierra Sullivan will miss this season due to shoulder surgery.


Douglas opened with a 25-20, 25-19 win at home against McQueen. Savannah Rasmussen, Meika Cole and Rachael Hollar had three kills each for the Tigers. Jolene Votel contributed two aces and Amanda Hone nine assists.


Douglas defeated McQueen, 25-14, 25-17. Sophia Maricich led the Tigers at the net with six kills, while Sage Hubkey added four.

Meadow Shull and Alissa Jenkins each had three serving aces.
