Douglas takes its lumps in wrestling doubleheader

The Douglas High School wrestling team ran into two of the top teams in the Class 4A Northern Zone on Wednesday and came away licking some wounds.

The Tigers lost six of the last seven matches against McQueen and came out on the short end of a 45-25 decision. They won the first two matches against perennial powerhouse Wooster in the second dual meet of the doubleheader, but the visiting Colts reversed things in a hurry and escaped with a 59-13 victory.

It was another learning experience for a relatively young and inexperienced Douglas squad. Still, the Tigers have made a lot of progress over the first two weeks of the season. The Tigers, 8-6 in dual meets, will compete in the individual Incline Tournament today.

Douglas started fast against McQueen, getting a forfeit in the 103-pound match and an 8-3 victory by Bud Nollet (12-2 on the season) in the 112-pound match.

The Lancers cut the lead to 9-5 when Beau Dean recorded a superior decision over sophomore Jeff Martin (3-4) at 119 pounds.
