Douglas golf team shows progress
Individual improvement was a bright spot Tuesday for the Douglas High boys golf team during Sierra League tournament play in Carson City.
Douglas finished sixth in the six-team tournament played on the West course at Eagle Valley Golf Course. This marked the Tigers’ first action since the league’s season-opening tournament on March 14 (Washoe County schools took a two-week spring break).
“(The break) gave the kids some time to really work on their golf game,” Douglas coach Evan Evans noted. “We spent a lot of time over the two weeks working on our short game and decision-making on the course and the kids showed better course management during Tuesday’s match.”
The coach pointed to “major improvement” from sophomore Tyler Kellar and freshman Grant Kuhlmann.
Galena was the winning team with a 373, five shots ahead of Bishop Manogue. Carson was third at 438, led by Lakoda Smokey’s 78.
Douglas will host a league tournament Tuesday at the Ranch Course at Genoa Lakes. Tee times begin at 11 a.m.
