It was what you might expect from a season opener for a team boasting eight newcomers to the sport.
Amid the explanations of how to properly score the game and what the protocol for starting a match was an extremely strong performance from the Douglas girls’ tennis team’s two most experienced players.
Melissa Oglesby used her baseline game, complete with sweeping ground strokes and pinpoint serves to dismantle Reed High’s top singles players, losing a single game in three sets.
Nikki Villoria also swept her sets, sporting a powerful net game and aggressive approach to mow through the Raiders’ lineup.
Kristin Jarboe split her first two sets to complete a dominating match for the Tiger singles’ roster.
Douglas struggled in the doubles portion and dropped the match as a team, 28-17.
