Douglas girls soccer team blanks North Valleys

Douglas rebounded from its sluggish win over Hug earlier this week with a 5-0 win over North Valleys Saturday in Reno.

The Tigers led 3-0 at halftime off goals from Tracey Hawks, Allison Chapman and Christina Bradshaw. Hawks and Hannah Sullivan added goals in the second half.

Sullivan, Bradshaw and Chapman, along with Britney Christen and Rebecca Wallstrum, all had assists in the game.

Goalie Andrea Bryant only had to make one save.

Douglas improves to 10-2-1 overall and 9-1-1 in the Sierra League. The Tigers, who remain in second place, one point behind South Tahoe in the league standings, haven’t lost since opening the season 2-2.

Douglas won the J.V. game, 4-1.

In boys action on Saturday, Douglas lost at North Valleys, 4-1.

Victor Posadas scored the only goal for Douglas off an assist from Nic Beres, which gave it a 1-0 halftime lead. North Valleys scored four goals in the second half for the win. The Tigers are now in fifth-place at 4-7 and can only earn a Northern 4A playoff spot if Carson beats Reno today and then they beat the Huskies next Saturday at Reno High.

Seth Bartlett scored the only goal of the game in the first half as the Douglas J.V. team beat North Valleys.

Steve Done recorded 12 saves in the shutout win as Douglas improved to 7-4 in league play.

Kyle Currence helped out the defense with his effort from the marking fullback position. Coach Milko Vasquez also praised the play of Alex Haws, Cody Lamb, Chase Cohee and Dylan Rahe.
