Douglas girls settle for tie vs. Damonte Ranch
The Douglas High girls soccer team settled for a tie, but still clinched second place in the Sierra League and a first round playoff game in the Northern 4A playoffs.
Douglas played Damonte Ranch to a 1-1 tie on Friday at Damonte Ranch. The Tigers are 13-3-2 and 7-1-1 in league heading into its final regular season game at home against Carson on Tuesday.
Douglas will host Carson on senior night. The Tigers will honor their three seniors, Alexa Moss, Claire Ingrey and Jordan Smith. The junior varsity game will begin at 5:15 p.m. with the ceremony honoring the seniors scheduled for 6:45.
Douglas jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Damonte when Molly Coverley intercepted a pass and looped a pass to the running Amelia Cochran. Cochran beat her defender to the ball and sent a header to Moss, who was able to send the ball into the net. Damonte tied the game in the second half.
Douglas keeper Jordan Smith had five saves on the day.
The Tigers also recently beat Manogue 2-0. Douglas scored off of a throw-in from Moss to Madi Smalley, who wove her way from one side of the penalty box to the other to get an open shot on goal which beat the Miners’ keeper to the far post. Jesse Cabrera then scored off of a pass from Moss.
The Douglas junior varsity stayed unbeaten with a 4-0 win over Damonte, not allowing a shot on goal. Campbell Dedmon scored after Mikaela Camara passd to Bailey Rozier, who slipped a pass behind the defense to Dedmon.
Shyla Moe also scored, Arianna Moralez scored off of a pas from Rozier and Savanna Harrington scored off of Colby Bera’s direct kick.
