Douglas boys win fourth soccer game in a row
The Douglas boys won their fourth Sierra League soccer game in a row Saturday with a 4-0 victory over the Hug Hawks at DHS.
The Tigers improved to 4-3-1 in league play with the win.
Henry Leon scored the game-winner 11 minutes into the contest off a cross from Josh Pratt.
In the 20th minute, Leon made the pass that set up Chris Honer, who scored to make it 2-0 Tigers.
Sam Forrester collected a loose ball in the penalty box and found the net 10 minutes later.
Jeremy Curtis finished the scoring with a goal midway through the second half.
Goalkeeper Chase Zumpft recorded the shutout for the Tigers.
Douglas coach Phil Sheridan said – despite the timing of the goals – that he thought his team actually played better in the second half.
“In the first half, we didn’t build well out of the back, but we built well enough to put the ball in dangerous positions and we finished,” Sheridan said. “In the second half, we dominated play because we possessed the ball.”
The Tigers avenged an earlier loss to North Valleys with a 4-0 win over the Panthers last Wednesday.
Chris Bargman scored two goals and John Trent had a goal and an assist against North Valleys.
Brian DeMarta opened the scoring with a penalty kick.
Nic Beres also had an assist for the Tigers.
Zumpft had 11 saves in goal for the shutout.
