Dolphins finish second
More than 300 age group swimmers gathered in Minden last weekend when the Douglas Dolfins hosted a three-day invitational at the Carson Valley Swim Center.
The Dolfins finished second in the team points standings behind Mammoth Lakes Swim Team.
“Despite being tired from some tough summer training, the team had some strong swims,” Dolfins coach Don Luikart said. “Since school has gone into recess, the Dolfins have been doing 5,000 to 6,000 yards a day and one hour of dryland, including weights, running and plyometrics. The athletes are adjusting well to the rigorous training and are performing very near to their best times.”
Among the individual highlights were Stephanie Denson, David Shih, Jessica Ward and Janet Lillegard, according to the coach.
Shih, an 11-year-old, logged new A times in the 50-yard butterfly (32.59, five seconds faster than his previous best) and the 50 breaststroke (40.59, a four-second improvement). Lillegard also turned new A times in the 200 breaststroke (3:01.82) and 200 backstroke (2:44.81). A complete listing of all the team’s individual results may be found in the community scoreboard on B-2.
The Dolfins resume their summer schedule in two weeks with a meet in Bishop, Calif.
