DHS fall sports gearing up

Monday, Aug. 19, will mark the official opening of all fall sports seasons except football at Douglas High.
Football players will start double-day workouts on Thursday, Aug. 15.
Several DHS sports programs will offer voluntary workouts this week and next.
Players in all sports must have turned in all required paperwork before they will be allowed to participate in any conditioning workouts or tryouts.

The first day of tryouts for the Douglas High School boys’ tennis team will be Monday, Aug. 19, at 2 p.m. at the Lampe Park courts.
Michael Schneider will be back for his third season as coach of the team.
Tryouts for the girls’ team will start Monday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. at the Lampe Park courts.
Two-a-days start on Thursday, Aug. 15, for all three teams.
Players will practice in helmets, shorts and T-shirts through the 17th.
Practice in full pads starts on Monday, Aug. 19.
Voluntary conditioning workouts for prospective varsity, junior varsity and freshman players will be held Aug. 12, 14 and 16, from 8 to 10 a.m., at DHS.
Varsity head coach Kira Brown said tryouts for all three teams will be held on Monday, Aug. 19, and Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Juniors and seniors will try out from 8 to 10 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m. both days. Freshmen and sophomores will try out from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. both days.
Voluntary conditioning workouts will be held Aug. 12-16 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at DHS.
Varsity coach Phil Sheridan and JV coach Milko Vasquez will oversee tryouts beginning on Monday, Aug. 19. Prospective players will go through two days of two-a-day workouts on the 19th and 20th at Douglas High. The morning session will run from 7:30 to 9 and the afternoon practice is scheduled for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Tryouts Aug. 21-23 will run from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Seniors Britney Christen (265-5337) and Jessica Brady (265-3777) are organizing voluntary conditioning workouts each weekday at the high school from 6 to 7 p.m.
Varsity head coach Fred Schmidt and JV head coach Ralph Johnson will oversee tryouts beginning Monday, Aug. 19. Two-a day workouts scheduled for 7 to 8 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Carson Valley Middle School.
The Tigers will scrimmage Whittell on Aug. 28 and then will play in the one-day Galena tournament on Aug. 31. Douglas will open the season on Sept. 3 against Reed High.
Voluntary conditioning workouts are being held Monday through Saturday, from 8 to 10 a.m., starting at DHS.
Head coach Keith Cole said the first day of official workouts will be Monday, Aug. 19, from 8 to 10 a.m., at the high school.
